Trust Veena Malik to make headlines, and for the most unusual things! The Pakistani actress of Bigg Boss fame has made a world record for being kissed 137 times on her hand in one minute on her birthday (Feb 26), breaking the earlier record held by Salman Khan for receiving 108 kisses in a minute. We caught up with Veena and got her talking about kisses, taxes, Holi and more…
Mark of respect
The lady is euphoric, after making her maiden world record, which has been entered in the Guinness Book. “In our culture, kissing the hand is a sign of aehteram (respect) and people mostly kiss their elders’ hand. So, I felt beautiful being given that kind of respect even though it was a part of talent hunt for my forthcoming film ‘ The City That Never Sleeps.’ I’m in fact, going to attempt three-four more world records and Insha Allah, they will be successful,” says she.
Toughest to enact
Interestingly, while Veena is a strong advocate of kissing, she adds in the same breath, “Onscreen kissing is the most difficult part of my job. I have smooched in just forthcoming one film of mine - The Dirty Picture (now renamed Silk Sakkht Hard) and honestly speaking, I didn’t like it! In fact, I hate to be kissed onscreen! That’s something so personal, that you just can’t enact that!”
My marriage is jinxed!
Onscreen kissing may not be her cup of tea, but what about off-screen love and marriage? After all, she was all set to star in her own sawyamvar, not so long ago? After a pregnant pause, Veenareplies, “I have been received marriage proposals ever since I was 12. I’m the only star, who received 75000 proposals for my swayamvar. But, somehow I feel, my marriage is jinxed!”
It’s time to divert her attention to happier thoughts, forthcoming festival of Holi, for instance and she cheers up instantly. “This will be my third Holi in India! First year, I was mighty scared of all those colours, second year I was at my wits’ end, rubbing off the colours from my body for a week! But this year, I’m all geared to dunk my friends in colours and steer clear of being smeared! And I may taste the bhang for the first time!”
